Hard to believe that a 13 year old boy from the farm could be brought to live in Hell’s Kitchen in NY City in the 40s and be able to survive.
Chuck did just that and has hilarious and preposterous stories that are many times unbelievable but absolutely true. From the basketball court, to the shores of the Hudson, to Central Park, Times Square , the Ferry to Jersey, Pier 84, and Christmastime on 42nd Street they are all enjoyable and entertaining. It was a wild time in Hells Kitchen and Chuck added to the wildness with enthusiasm.
From playing with rocks and a broom on the farm fantasizing that he was Ted Williams to an altercation on the basketball court with Slim in NY City was a transition that he accomplished likened to obtaining his paratrooper wings. The stories tell it all.
