Dr. Jack Del Rio gets a mysterious phone call form an old patient he has spent twenty years trying to forget about. He can’t even imagine the family disruption this seemingly innocuous call will bring to his life, let alone the anguish it will cause in his expectations of what constitutes family. With the many different opinions of what extended family means, this scenario will create a situation that no one he knows has ever faced before.
In the meantime, a strained relationship with a former partner who has struggled for 15 years after a patient’s death will take on a new and even more diabolical twist after Jack himself struggles with a recent patient death that he inevitably feels responsible for. A courtroom battle will further erode his confidence in himself and even in his resolve to continue to provide patient care to some of the neediest women in Rhode Island.
About the author:
In my 35 years taking care of Ob-Gyn high risk patients, I have been witness to some of the most extraordinary stories surrounding life and death. In addition, it examines the interactions of two mothers, a younger one struggling with the loss of a baby she thought she had given up forever and her mother celebrating the return of a child she thought she had lost forever.
