The poems of Seasons, Voices—not arranged by chronology of composition—are selected from the creative output of seventy-five years. The earliest dates from the 1930s, the latest from 2008. They reflect experience lived, experience imagined, experience witnessed and assimilated through the arts, especially through reading. They speak in many voices. The seasonal order of the natural year—and of a life span—provides a loose framework for the present sequencing and allows room for some reflections to which time is irrelevant.
