An idyllic village tavern, The Thorn & Thistle stands as an adopted home for a handful of unusual and ill-matched souls. The quaint structure serves, among other things, as: an escape from the pressures of proper society for a gentleman; a source of pride for its keeper; a place to find companionship for a widow; and a workshop for a philosopher poet. Following last year’s release of I am here, I am here—and I am glad you came, the poems contained in The Thorn & Thistle represent the second piece of the poet’s wistful trilogy. In this collection the reader is introduced to verse about and by the characters who frequent The Thorn & Thistle, whether it be for a personal holiday; a break from labor in the field; or to rest after a day of travel. Realizing the connection between the characters, and the connection the reader shares with the characters, becomes the price of entry to the mysterious confines of The Thorn & Thistle.
