Tommy Turkey is easily distracted and becomes separated from his family. During his search for his Mom and Dad, he makes new friends, becomes a celebrity, and learns how to take care of himself. The character of Tommy is based on a real wild turkey that spent two months with some free range chickens in the author's Glenmont, New York neighborhood.
