American tourists, world travelers from every nation are lured by the astonishing beauty of Europe. Visiting ancient historic landmarks, museums, religious shrines, alpine heights and bucolic vinyards, the innocent tourist, the naive wanderer, sees only what lies on the surface.

Lewis Keller, an investigative journalist and freelance writer in the early years of his career steps into the simmering caldron of post WWII Europe. Fourteen years after the end of WWII and at the height of the Cold War (1959), a changing world—the re-alignment of nations, man in space and the threat of nuclear destruction provide cover for a clandestine underground network of well funded escape routes for Nazi war criminals.

Keller, on assignment for Vantage Magazine investigates the complicity of Switzerland and Swiss banks with the 3rd Reich, the collaboration of France, Spain and Italy in the Fascist Axis. He learns of the extensive cherry picking of "useful" Nazi scientists by the USA and USSR to advance their positions in the nuclear arms race. Haunted by what he learns, he joins the struggle to bring Naxi war criminals to justice and resist the resurgence of Fascism. Tortured by the question he asks—"who can be trusted!?"
