In short essays published over a period of eleven years in a weekly newspaper in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and a monthly newspaper in New York City, Mark M Green translates into layman’s terms the hard science of subjects like climate change, and black holes, the biological basis of homosexuality, why engines knock and how Plexiglas affected the outcome of World War II, among many others and shines light on a variety of topics ranging from health to politics to personal experiences.
A professor of chemistry for forty-nine years Green has carried out internationally recognized research and published two textbooks designed to alter the teaching of organic chemistry. The scholarship and depth of inquiry that signified his academic work has been applied to the subjects of these essays.
He is now Professor Emeritus in the New York University Tandon School of Engineering while also working on his farm in upstate New York growing and investigating the essential oils of plants which repel insects and ticks (fivebarnfarm.com).
