Meet Sarah Miriam Peale, one of America’s first woman artists. She was a member of the Peale family- a family of artists who greatly contributed to America’s early art by painting hundreds of America’s leading citizens. Sarah made it her firm goal to follow the example of her intellectually-curious, close-knit family. Like other members of the Peale family, she too painted national leaders, and was the first American woman to do so.
