Willis Sharpe Kilmer was an influential man in Binghamton, New York. Owner of the company that produced the popular patent medicine Swamp Root brought him millions of dollars, part of which he spent founding a newspaper which exists to this day. With his intense competitive spirit, he found horse racing and breeding to be a perfect blend of business and competition. He established a breeding farm in Binghamton, and expanded his operations to Virginia, where he personally directed the thoroughbred matings and training of such equine champions as Exterminator, Sun Briar, and Sun Beau. This book tells the story of his racing and breeding business, drawn from the pages of newspapers of the time.
